Why I Make Art

Why I Make Art

Up until recently I was a self-taught artist. I do have some innate natural ability to paint and draw. 30 years later, after a couple of nervous breakdowns, I finally realised what the universe was trying to tell me. To do what I love and what I am good at. Thankfully I listened.

Cut to today and I have built on nature and have my studio in my home and my easel and canvas is a friendly place to be (most of the time, not when me and art are having a lovers tiff!). Art is my therapist, my friend, my lover, my muse, my inspiration and a huge part of my life.

Growing up was at times difficult with various emotionally unhinged events. But my family always was brilliant, you just had to add a little sugar at times. I think that might be one of the reasons I like sugary sweet colours in my art; to add warmth, comfort and tenderness to my life if it is ever lacking elsewhere.

I am working on a new collection which is really exciting for me to paint. I hope you will love it too. Think lush colours and delicious layers.

I am off to the art store today to get a range of sizes of canvas. I love going to that shop. It is like being a kid in a candy store.

What inspires me is love and music, passion and energy, movement and colour. I hope to do my inspiration justice.
